Man Caught Driving Stolen Car By US Customs

I guess there are just some days that you should stay in bed. First there was the accident in the morning playing ball. Not sure what shape the knee is in but time will tell on that one. Right now it is hard to see the knee cap.

So I can't even start my blog out with "it was just another ordinary day" but I can start it out with !#$%**!!! cold day in January. I was out on deliveries and it was close to lunch time so I thought that I would just take off and get my daughter's second package mailed down to her. Why take the truck when the car is warm and has new snow tires on it, right? My thinking, as per usual, is almost flawless so off I went to Babb.

Nothing unusual as I waited in line: passport - check, open box - check, super suave personality and unusually good looks - check. What could go wrong?

I began to wonder what was up when I got asked twice if the car was mine. No worries I have come across this intelligent line of questioning before. Answer and stay calm right? A few seconds later there is a doubling of the guard. Now all four of them come out. Wow I thought I am going to get checked for drugs. Why not right? I have access, I have injuries and I have kids. This guy is probably thinking early bonus from the money man.

My calmness turned to uncertainty when one walked to the back, the biggest came to the window and another one in front of the car had his hand on his gun. Oh oh! "Mr Quinton could you please hand me your passport, drivers licence, registration, unlock the doors and get out of the car". You know there are times when one wishes he had a blood pressure machine - dang I left it in the truck. So I get out of the car, gracefully of course, after about 30 awkward seconds, never taking my eyes off the guy with the gun. Immediately the one behind me gets in the car and turns it on. Okay this has never happened before. I am instructed to go for a walk with three guys and guns while my car drives off.

Perhaps I should digress now and fill you in on a very small detail. In the spring of 2010 I had the Honda stollen. Yes the same car I was in and the same car I reported stollen.

As we walk the biggest guy asks me "why are you trying to drive a stolen car across the boarder"? I said "that is because I had reported it stollen". Probably not the best answer but all I could come up with. I quickly added that it had been found (duh) and I was now driving it again (duh, duh). This well thought out answer led to me being told to sit - now in the office - and not move. Sure Mr Officer no problem.

After a bit a woman comes to me and asks me (again) if the car is mine. This time I was ready for them and I offered all kinds of information like my insurance guy, the local number to the RCMP. I was cut off and told to just wait. The other funny part to this story is that one of the Canadian Customs guys - in fact the boss - is sitting, smiling at me and enjoying the whole thing. Probably pleased that he chose that day to come for a visit.

Lets move ahead a bit shall we. After three hours of waiting I am told that it appears there has been a mistake and a flag was not lifted on the car and that I would be escorted back to Canada where a RCMP officer was waiting for me. I was given my stuff back and they watched me as I drove back to the Canadian boarder. All done right? No.

I get to the window and all my friends and associates (everyone there) is waiting for me. The first thing I am asked at the window is why I had turned to a life of crime and decided to steal cars. Funny. Now I get to wait for the officer to eat lunch and come out and interrogate me - which he did. After telling my story again someone believes me and I am given an apology from the officer as he calls in and has the flag removed. After he hangs up he says wait a few minutes and you are free to proceed to the post office in Babb. I am thinking "sure, easy for you to say you didn't have the guns and guys making a fuss over you". I decided to believe him and throw caution to the wind and try again. As I left I asked if I would be flagged now and given special consideration at the US boarder from now on. The answer from my Canadian friends was "you can expect to be treated like the car thief on both sides of the boarder coming and going".

Wow what a way to spend 4 hours. Turns out the extra suit case to Texas would have been a bargain.

Talk to you later. Stay tuned for more droll muse and drivel.

New Beginings

I guess that I have waited long enough to make another post. To be quite honest, I created this little blog to learn how and follow family. However, I find that I am doing far less following and learning than I originally planned.
I will be posting an update on the store to try and get me into the saddle again - not sure I even had the saddle on the horse - and begin my life's work of sharing all my wisdom with the two followers that I have gathered into the fold thus far.
The store is coming along, be it slower than I have wanted, but I guess progress is progress. So stay tuned and I will be trying to learn how to post with pictures in the next little while.

Welcome

Just a thought to start things off:

If you think you can you can; unfortunately, if you think you can't you can in the beginning but cannot by the end of it all.

However things work out for you one thing is clear mindless mutterings is destined to take its place in family history as the droll nexus of muse and drivel. Happy readings!
